The new President-ASSOCHAM, Sandeep Jajodia, is young, self-motivated and dynamic visionary. He is a man of strong judgment and deep insight, who has concertedly led his Monnet Group’s emergence into a formidable corporate entity on the Indian economic horizon. With his committed focus and dedicated passion, Mr. Jajodia has steered the Group’s evolution as the second largest coal-based sponge iron producer and also the first private sector company to operate the single largest underground coal mine in India.
Jajodia, 50, is a leader with a vision to achieve milestones in the industry and sports with a passion for improving the quality of country’s human resource.
PROFILE
Born in Kolkata, Mr. Jajodia grew up in Delhi and went to St. Columbus School and the Delhi University for his honour’s degree in commerce. Endowed with a business spark at an early age,his entrepreneurial skills helped him build Monnet Group.
As a sports enthusiast, he has been supporting the Indian boxing which has earned global laurels with several medals including the most prestigious Olympic medal. Monnet Group became the first corporate to associate with the Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) by being the official sponsors of the Indian Boxing team.
Starting the 1st Ferro Alloy Unit in 1991 with a modest capital cost ofRs 1.7 Cr, Mr. Jajodia has taken the Monnet Group to a value of Rs. 8,000 crore. As he progressed, he built his businesses across the forward and backward integration.
He visualized the importance of raw material security for plant operations and thus entered into mining sector. Monnet group became a major player in the field of mining and developed the largest underground coal mine in India in a very short span of time prior to de-allocation of coal mines in 2014. For the environmental concerns and also to improve quality of coal, Monnet group expanded into coal beneficiation and put up coal washeries in various coal producing states like Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh to set up BOO (Build, Own & Operate) washeries for various State Electricity Boards and Coal India Limited.
Taking a diversification route, Monnet group has entered into realty sector during 2010 and presently, working on prestigious real estate projects in NCR region.
During his corporate journey, Monnet group launched its initial public offering in 1993 and was listed on all major stock exchanges. Adept at creating strategic alliances with organization leaders to effectively align with and to support key business initiatives, he brought foreign & Indian development financial institutions on board as strategic equity partners. His Excellence at building and retaining high performance teams by hiring developing and motivating skilled professionals, focusing on corporate governance, comprehensive grasp of the intricacies of every aspect of the business have guided Monnet group to be part of the elite group of primary steel producers with the 1.5 MTPA integrated steel plant at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.
Sandeep Jajodia, besides being the driving force behind the growth of the Monnet Group, is also actively involved in other aspects relevant to industry and society. Presently, he is holding prestigious positions as President of ASSOCHAM. He has been associated as Chairman of Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association (SIMA) in the past. He is also committed to MIEL’s CSR activities, promoting various programmes through the Monnet Foundation.
