The Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) Monday demanded a parliamentary panel probe into the controversies revolving around the death and alleged “ill treatment” meted to the party leader E. Ahamed, who died at the RML Hospital here on February 1.
The issue was raised by IUML MP E. T. Mohammed Basheer while participating in the debate on Motion of Thanks to the President’s address to the Parliament in the Lok Sabha.
He said he was making the submission before the House with “wounded heart” as the late leader was subjected to improper treatment in the Hospital.
The references to the alleged visit of Prime Minister’s “emissary” to the RML Hospital premises provoked angry reactions from the ruling BJP members.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs S S Ahluwalia said the member has to authenticate his charges with proper evidence.
Opposition members from Kerala including P Karunakaran (CPI-M), K C Venugopal (Congress) and N K Premachandran (RSP) said the member should be allowed to make his point.
Mr Basheer was later asked to make his speech. Concluding his remarks, Mr Basheer said such “tragic accident” and the alleged treatment meted to Late Ahamed should not happen to anyone else.
