Lok Sabha Secretary, Dr. D. Bhalla presented certificates to the Interns of Lok Sabha Internship Programme 2016-2017 (One month) today in Parliament Library Building.

PARLIAMENTSpeaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhalla lauded the visionary initiative of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan in starting the novel Internship Programme. Hailing the Programme as an investment well-thought of, he stressed that this will go a long way in empowerment of the youth and exposing them to the fundamentals of Parliamentary democracy. Marking this Programme as a step in the right direction, Dr. Bhalla gave valuable suggestions to make the Programme even more relevant.

Many Interns who participated in the Internship Programme shared their experiences and offered feedback about the Programme.

On the directions of Lok Sabha Speaker  Sumitra Mahajan, the Lok Sabha Internship Scheme was envisaged for providing an opportunity to young talent in the country with outstanding academic credentials for acquainting them with the working of parliamentary democracy through parliamentary internship and to train them to contribute towards generation of research inputs for members of Parliament.

The Internship has exposed these young interns to the constitutional and legal provisions with respect to working of Parliament and while contributing to the research inputs, they shall gain valuable experience of parliamentary democracy at work which will add to their ability for comprehension of difficult subjects and drafting abilities for writing meaningfully. This embellishment and capacity building will also help them in future in their chosen fields.

The Lok Sabha Internship Programme 2016-2017 (one month) commenced on 14 December 2016 and concluded on 13 January 2017. 25 Interns joined the Programme. During the Internship, several workshops on Parliamentary Processes and Procedures were organized on topical subjects, viz. Role of Parliament; Legislative Process; Budgetary Process; Committee System; and Parliamentary Privileges. Besides other Branches, the Interns were also attached to the Financial Committees and Departmentally related Standing Committees Branches. In addition, the Interns were attached to the Legislative; Question and Research Branches.
