ALIGARH : Professor Iqtidar Husain Siddiqui, noted historian, an expert in Medieval India’s history and former Chairman of Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University, today passed away on November 28 in Aligarh after a brief illness.

The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has expressed a deep sense of grief and sorrow on Prof. Siddiqui’s sad demise. He said that it was an irreparable loss for the academic world and the University which cannot be fulfilled in many years to come.

AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. Syed Ahmad Ali has deeply condoled the death of Prof. Siddiqui and prayed for his elevation hereafter. He said that Prof. Sidiqui was an authority on Medieval Indian history and his loss will be felt forever.

Prof I.H. Siddiqui had authored thirteen widely cited books including the prize winning works “Shershah Suri”, “Islam and Muslim in South Asia, Historical perspective”, “Authority and Kinship under the Sultans of Delhi”, “Indo-Persian Histography up to 13th Century”, “Delhi Sultanate” and “English translation of the Waqi’at-i-Mushraqi”.

Prof. Siddiqui wrote three books on history in Urdu language. He had also contributed to Encyclopedia of Islam: New Edition (Leiden), Encyclopedia Iranica (USA), Encyclopedia of Islam in Turkey (Istanbul), Encyclopedia of Islamic Civilization in Arabic (Jordon) and Danishnama (Iran).
