US says, it is confident that Russia is behind recent hacking of US political organizations, and urged officials to seek cyber-security assistance in the lead up to November’s Presidential election.
In a joint statement, Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence on Election Security said, the recent disclosure of allegedly hacked emails on WikiLeaks and DCLeaks.com is consistent with Russian directed efforts and is intended to interfere with the US election process.
Russia has denied the reports and said the claims that it was involved in the cyber attacks were nonsense.
Data revealing discussions within the Democratic Party was hacked earlier this year and a number of embarrassing emails have come to light during the 2016 election campaign.
