At least 13 people died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Gopalgnaj district of Bihar.  The incident occurred near Harkhua area under town police station of the district.

According to relatives of the deceased the victims had consumed country made liquor last night.

Thereafter, they complained about stomach pain and started vomiting.

However, District Magistrate Rahul Kumar claimed that it was not a hooch tragedy. Mr.Kumar told media that a three member committee has been constituted to find out the cause of death.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has sought a report from the district administration on the reported hooch tragedy deaths.

It may be noted that there is a complete ban on consuming liquor in Bihar as the government has imposed total prohibition since 5th of April this year.
This is the third such instance in a fortnight in the state where total prohibition was imposed on the sale and consumption of liquor from April 5. The ban covers country liquor as well.

On August 13, three people died and eight fell ill after allegedly consuming hooch in West Champaran district. Those who survived complained of partial loss of vision.
