ALIGARH

AMUAmidst the Mathura incident, the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, urged District Magistrate to remove illegal structure from University land.

In a letter addressed to the District Magistrate, the Vice Chancellor urged to remove an illegal Chabutra (platform) and the idols, which had been installed on AMU land on the night of 2/3 June 2016. He also appealed that the Aligarh Mayor be advised to desist from using the incident to fan communal trouble, who visited the site and tried to instigate communal passions.

The Vice Chancellor has pointed out that the construction of illegal structure on AMU land is agitating the students and it needs to be removed immediately.

He visited the University land, located in Bhamola, where efforts of the University Property Department to construct a boundary wall yesterday had sparked tension after protests by some local residents, who levelled baseless allegations on the University team. The Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig. S. Ahmad Ali and the University Proctor, Prof. M. Mohsin Khan also accompanied the Vice Chancellor.

The Vice Chancellor talked to the District Magistrate and informed him that some elements wanted to give this incident a communal flair.

It may be noted that the construction of this illegal structure had taken place overnight only after the AMU Property Department tried to erect a boundary wall there after removing illegal encroachments during the day time on June 2.
