Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley today condemned the murder of journalists Rajdeo Ranjan and Akhilesh Pratap Singh and called for an independent probe into the killings.
He said the guilty should be brought to book. Ranjan, who was bureau chief of Hindi daily Hindustan, was shot dead in Siwan district of Bihar last evening, while Singh, who was working for a local TV channel, was killed in Chatra district of Bihar on Thursday night.
Recent spurt in murder cases has given opportunity to opposition to raise fingers towards law and order situation in Bihar.
Attacks are going on chief minister Nitish Kumar both from constituent parties of opposition NDA and ruling Grand Alliance.BJP alleged that this is return of the jungle raj which is reminding people of the old days of crimes like murder, abduction and extortion in the state. Senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh criticised the present regime in the state. Mr. Singh said Nitish Kumar has failed to curb the crime and maintain law and order which is his prime responsibility.
Several media persons in Patna and Muzaffarpur expressed solidarity with family of slain journalist putting black strips on their arms. Sources said Rajdeo Ranjan was on a hit list of criminals. Earlier he had got life threatening and once attacked by goons also.
