Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed a resolution strongly condemning the DMK chief M.Karunanidhi on the recommendations of the House Privileges Committee.
The matter relates to his article in the DMK party organ Murasoli in August last. In the article, the veteran political leader is charged with falsely attributing a remark to the housing minister Mr R.Vaithilingam, which the minister said he had not made in the Assembly.
Acrimonious scenes were witnessed in the Assembly before passing the resolution as DMK leaders staged protests in front of the speaker P.Dhanapal by way of squatting and tearing off the pages of the report. They were evicted by the house marshals on the Speaker’s orders.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) members staged a walk out against the Speaker’s refusal to allow a debate on the report of the House Privileges Committee.
Its Floor Leader A.Soundararajan told media persons outside the Assembly, the Speaker’s decision to adopt the resolution without discussion was undemocratic. He said his party member in the House panel opposed the recommendation to condemn the DMK chief.
