At least 57 people were killed and 30 others wounded in Russian air strikes today on a prison complex run by Al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate in Syria’s northwest.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights the strikes on an Al-Nusra Front building, which lies near a popular market in Maarat al-Numan in Idlib province, killed 21 civilians, 29 militants and seven detainees.

Russian warplanes have been conducting air strikes against the Islamic State organisation and “other terrorist groups” in Syria since September 30.
