Nearly 23 lacs cases were settled in the National Lok Adalat organised today across the country at all levels from the Taluk Courts to High Courts.
Out of these settled cases, seven lakhs were pending cases and 16 lakhs were related to pre-litigation.
According to the National Legal Services Authority, the total value of the settlement amount related to the different cases is estimated at 900 crore rupees.
AIR correspondent reports, the nature of cases which were taken up in the Lok Adalat today ranged from Criminal Compoundable, Bank Recovery, Family Disputes, Labour and Land Acquisition.
Besides, other cases related to Revenue, Sales and Income Tax, Service Matters and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act were also settled amicably.
The objective of the National Lok Adalat is to reduce pendency as well as prevent additional litigation burdening the courts, where settlements are possible.
