Punjab’s ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, SAD, has expelled its veteran leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia from the primary membership of the party. The action came hours after Mr Ramoowalia joined the cabinet of Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh. A statement issued by SAD in Chandigarh said that Mr Ramoowalia has displayed the height of political opportunism and power hunger by betraying the party which had given him everything. Mr Ramoowalia quit the party and took oath as a Cabinet Minister in SP government.
