NEW Delhi: Adding more fodder to on going controversy and killing over Cow and beef, an article in the RSS mouthpiece Panchjanya preached that the Hindu scripture, the Vedas order the killing of “sinners” who slaughter cows.
The article which is being run as a cover story in the latest issue of Panchjanya assumed that that the Dadri victim may have slaughtered a cow under the influence of anti-national traditions.
The article said, “Vedas order killing of the sinner who kills a cow. Cow slaughter is an issue of honour for Hindus.”
The article is being written by Vinay Krishna Chaturvedi, the editor of the journal Lafz.
The article said, “Vedas order killing of the sinner who kills a cow. Cow slaughter is an issue of honour for Hindus. The Dadri victim perhaps slaughtered a cow under the influence of bad deeds.”
Chaturvedi also slammed writers who returned their Sahitya Akademi awards in protest over the Dadari murder and called them insensitive to Hindu sentiments over cow slaughter.
After outrge within Hindu society the scholars, the RSS distanced itself from the article saying that the writer has expressed his views and is not a member of the editorial board of the magazine. “The writer has expressed his views. He is not a member of editorial board of the magazine. This is not an editorial,” said Hitesh Shankar, the Panchjanya editor.
“We have printed the article in our magazine but not with the intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments,” said Shankar.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders continue to make controversial remarks in the wake of the gruesome murder in Dadri. Union Minister General VK Singh said that sometimes incidents of religious intolerance do take place in the country.
“Sometimes incidents of religious intolerance do take place and they have occurred in the past too but. Media must refrain from highlighting cases of communal violence,” Singh said.
On September 28, 50-year-old Mohammad Akhalq was lynched following rumours that his family has consumed beef in Bishada village of Dadri, Uyyar Pradesh. His 22-year-old son Danish was also grievously injured in the attack.
