The Assam police has gunned down 3 top militants today in Dima Hasao district. Dima Hasao SP, G V Shivprasad said that the slain militants have been identified as Sibu Kemprai, the Chief of Dima Halam Daogah (Action) group and Nigam Phonglo, co-founder of the outfit.
He said that another top militant of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers was killed in the encounter.
Giving details of the operation, the SP said that police launched offensive at Basabari area under Maibang police station.
AK series rifle and pistols have been recovered from the slain militants. Police said that the militants placed extortion demands to various people including businessman and government officials.
Security forces have arrested at least 14 militants of the outfit during last 15 days who were involved in numerous crimes.
In another incident, police arrested two National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants in Chirang district Wednesday.
