The Madras High Court has granted interim anticipatory bail for ex-telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran for six weeks in the illegal telephone exchange case.

He is accused of involvement in giving 323 BSNL lines illegally to Sun TV in Chennai during his tenure as the Union Telecom Minister. The CBI has issued summon to him to appear for inquiry before its Delhi office tomorrow. Mr Maran filed an application in the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail. Hearing the case, Justice R. Subbiah granted interim anticipatory bail for six weeks after recording his assurance that he would appear for the inquiry tomorrow in Delhi and cooperate fully with the CBI.

The court also ordered to give a personal bond of 1 Lakh rupees and two sureties for 1 lakh rupees each. Mr Dayanidhi Maran surrendered before the CBI Special court in the Madras High Court premises this evening and after paying the personal and surety bonds, secured the order for the interim anticipatory bail.
