Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday (October 22) assured that steps were being taken to ease visa difficulties for Bangladeshi citizens, particularly those seeking medical treatment in India.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Indian Media Correspondents’ Association, Bangladesh (IMCAB), at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka’s Baridhara area around 11.30am.

The delegation, led by IMCAB president Shaheen Chowdhury and general secretary Masum Billah, raised concerns over delays in obtaining Indian visas, particularly the prolonged wait for appointment slots after submitting online applications.

“We are looking into the difficulties people are facing in obtaining Indian visas. Special initiatives are being taken to ensure that patients seeking medical treatment in India can obtain visas more easily,” Trivedi said.

He said the High Commission was examining delays in securing appointments for physical submission of visa applications and expressed hope that the problems would be resolved soon.

Emphasising people-to-people ties between the neighbours, Trivedi said, “The more people from Bangladesh and India travel between the two countries, the stronger the friendship and mutual understanding between our peoples will become.”

Other IMCAB delegates included Basudev Dhar, Quddus Afrad, Mir Afroz Zaman, Abu Ali, Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, Nirmal Chakraborty, Zakir Hossain and Monir Hossain.

Indian High Commission first secretary Gokul V K also attended the meeting.
