With drought conditions declared in several districts of Maharashtra, State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule visited Akola today to hear farmers’ grievances. Speaking to the media, he warned banks, credit societies and moneylenders against harassing farmers for loan recovery.
He specifically directed banks not to insist on repayment of loan instalments from farmers in drought-affected areas and urged farmers to report any instances of harassment to the administration. Mr. Bawankule assured that no farmer in the drought-hit regions would be left out of the relief measures. He said, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will ensure assistance reaches everyone. Appealing to farmers not to lose hope or take extreme steps such as suicide, he assured them that relief assistance would be provided before Diwali.
