Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh declared on Sunday that nanomedicine will spearhead the next generation of precision medicine and individualized healthcare, positioning India as a rising contributor to advanced medical technologies.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the World Congress on Nanomedicine 2026 in New Delhi, Dr. Singh highlighted that the Department of Biotechnology is actively backing 210 research and development projects in the field with a financial allocation of 174 crore rupees.
Describing nanomedicine as one of the most transformative shifts in modern medical practice, the Minister emphasized its potential to operate at the nanometer scale. He noted that future healthcare will increasingly shift toward tailored treatments shaped by a patient’s unique genetic profile, lifestyle, dietary habits, and environmental factors, with nanotechnology offering unprecedented precision at the cellular level.
“India is already into this relatively new area of medicine and has the scientific and institutional capabilities to contribute to the development of future healthcare solutions,” Dr. Singh stated. He added that the nation’s expanding research base, robust government backing, and rising industry engagement provide a solid foundation for India to transition from merely adopting emerging technologies to engineering its own homegrown solutions.
The World Congress on Nanomedicine 2026 is being organized under the umbrella of the International Society of Nano Medical Sciences (ISNS) and the International Society for NanoMedicine (ISNM). The high-profile event serves as a premier global platform for scientists, researchers, students, and industry leaders to exchange knowledge, forge collaborations, and explore cutting-edge advancements in nanomedicine.
