Flood situation in Odisha is improving as floodwaters are gradually receding, but the situation remains challenging in the worst-affected districts. Shortages of drinking water, extensive crop damage and destruction of houses have added to the hardships of flood-affected families. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecast another spell of heavy rainfall across most parts of the state till August 5.
As floodwaters slowly recede in Odisha, people in the worst-hit districts of Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur continue to battle acute hardship. Drinking water remains scarce as wells and tubewells are contaminated, while snakes and crocodiles entering inundated villages have heightened fear among residents. Extensive crop damage has left farmers devastated, and many families are still unable to cook as their homes and kitchens remain damaged.
The state government has intensified relief operations and asked district collectors to submit damage assessment reports quickly to facilitate compensation. Authorities say there is no immediate threat of another flood. However, the India Meteorological Department has issued Yellow Alerts for most districts, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next three days.
