A Delhi court today cleared AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Excise Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi liquor policy case. Court ruled that the CBI had failed to substantiate its allegations. Kejriwal and Sisodia were among 23 people who were accused in the case. All have been cleared.

The Delhi court delivered a sharp rebuke to the CBI and ruling that the prosecution had failed to substantiate its allegations with credible evidence. The court held that claims of a larger conspiracy and criminal intent did not stand up to judicial scrutiny, as it discharged all 23 accused in the case, including former BRS leader K Kavitha.

Judge discharged all 23 accused persons in the matter. They are Kuldeep Singh, Narender Singh, Vijay Nair, Abhishek Boinpally, Arun Pillai, Mootha Gautam, Sameer Mahendru, Manish Sisodia, Amandeep Singh Dhall, Arjun Pandey, Butchibabu Gorantla, Rajesh Joshi, Damodar Prasad Sharma, Prince Kumar, Arvind Kumar Singh, Chanpreet Singh, K Kavitha, Arvind Kejriwal, Durgesh Pathak, Amit Arora, Vinod Chauhan, Ashish Chand Mathur and Sarath Reddy.

The Court said that the CBI failed to make out a prima facie case against Sisodia. The Judge added Kejriwal was implicated without any cogent material. While pronouncing the verdict, the Court said that the CBI chargesheet running into thousands of pages included material which did not support any of the witness statements. The judge also said there were “misleading averments” in the chargesheet.
