Dense fog has blanketed several parts of northern India, severely disrupting air and rail services. According to the Delhi Division of Railways, at least 18 trains bound for the national capital are running more than three hours behind schedule due to poor visibility.
Air travel has also been hit hard. Delhi Airport authorities reported that 64 flights were cancelled today as foggy conditions continued to affect operations.
In response, the Civil Aviation Ministry has issued an advisory for passengers, urging them to stay informed through official airline communication channels. Major airlines, including Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet, have asked travellers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. Passengers have also been advised to factor in extra time for airport arrival and check-in procedures and plan their journeys accordingly.
Earlier the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange warning for dense to very dense fog conditions over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar till the 31st of this month.
Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail over Uttarakhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Northeast India tomorrow.
The Met department has also forecast cold wave conditions over Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab till tomorrow. The weather agency has also predicted Cold day conditions over Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi-NCR has been registered in the very poor category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) of the National Capital was recorded at 391 as of 7 PM today.
