Bangladesh’s Election Commission (EC) will begin a series of dialogues with political parties this week as part of preparations for the February 2026 parliamentary election, officials confirmed. Due to time constraints, parties will be invited in groups to join discussions before the election schedule is announced in early December, said EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
The two-week dialogue series will focus on the newly amended Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections Rules 2025, now awaiting gazette publication.
The EC has already completed key tasks, including delimitation of 300 constituencies, updating the voter list to 12.76 crore, finalizing 42,761 polling stations, and registering 66 local observer groups. 3 new parties, National Citizen Party (NCP), Bangladesh Aam Janagan Party, and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), are set to gain official registration soon.
The dialogues mark the Commission’s final engagement before the election schedule announcement next month.
