Bangladesh’s Home Adviser Lt Gen (retired) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that the country’s next general election, due in February, will be held in a “festive and peaceful manner.”
“I can tell you that the next general election will be held in a festive and peaceful manner,” he told reporters on Sunday after the 14th meeting of the advisory council at the Home Ministry. He admitted that “one or two small incidents” are usual during polls but said, “We are trying our best to check such incidents in the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.”
On concerns raised by the media about uncertainty over the polls, Chowdhury said, “The country is independent and the media as well. So, you can speak freely, which you didn’t prior to the July uprising.”
