Indian helicopters airlift 22 monks to safety
Nepal multi-nations rescue and relief operation in earthquake affected areas is going on in full swing. Relief has now reaching remote towns and villages. Indian Air force has pressed several helicopters in service to drop the relief materials in affected district. NDRF team today retrieved 3 dead bodies from under the rubble.
Nepalese government spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal said that the death toll has reached 7256 in the April 25 quake while the number of injured has reached 14,227 in the country’s worst tremor in over eight decades. He said 3 injured persons were brought today to Kathmandu for treatment. He said they were injured in the calamity and their condition was deteriorating day by day.
NDRF today established one more medical camp at Balaju Bus Park area and provided medical treatment to 33 sick and injured victims. Rescuers from NDRF have rescued 11 injured persons, retrieved 132 dead bodies and provided medical aid to 1157 injured and sick victims in the medical camps.
Authorities are yet to reach some remote villages where the health condition of many injured people has deteriorated. The earthquake victims in hilly areas are still deprived of much needed relief materials.
Indian helicopters from Lho, a place situated on China border, airlifted twenty-two Buddhist monks of Hinang Monastery today. They have been brought to Pokhara. An Army officer of Indian Mission BrigadierJarben Gamlin at Pokhara told AIR correspondent that the monks were held up there, as the area had lost road connectivity due to landslides after the earthquake. He told that Indian helicopters are carrying 12 to 15 tons of relief material everyday to quake hit Gorakha district and nearby places. Saturday, Indian helicopters dropped 18 tons of relief material to Lamjung and Gorakha.
