The Congress has condemned the alleged racist remarks made by Union Minister Giriraj Singh against party president Sonia Gandhi. Party general secretary Digvijay Singh said in New Delhi that the remarks has exposed the mindset of the government. Mr Singh also demanded an apology from the Minister for his remarks.

Giriraj Singh on Wednesday, asked if the Congress party would have accepted her if she had not been white-skinned. “If Rajiv Gandhi had married a Nigerian or if she (Sonia) wasn’t white skinned, would Congress accept her as a leader?” said the BJP MP from Bihar during a meeting in Hajipur.

Earlier, before the general elections, Giriraj Singh has stirred up a controversy saying that those opposing the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would have to go to Pakistan after the Lok Sabha election.
