Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu today said there is no proposal in the Ministry to intervene with the existing regulatory framework on airfare. He said, the government does not regulate the fares set by airlines- be it Indian or foreign.
Replying to a query on the exorbitant rise in airfares in the Lok Sabha, Mr Naidu said, the airlines used a market-driven approach to decide the airfares. He said it was his commitment to make air prices affordable for the common people.
Replying to a supplementary on exorbitant airfare hike by a private airline, Mr Naidu promised to conduct an enquiry into it. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said he had also received similar complaints from other MPs and the matter should be thoroughly investigated.
