The Calcutta High Court today cancelled all the OBC certificates given by the government of West Bengal after 2010.

A division bench of Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty and Justice Rajshekhar Mantha has delivered the order today. 5 lakhs OBC certificates have been cancelled through this verdict.

The court has also cleared it that those who have used this certificate will not be affected by this order. Nobody can use the now cancelled OBC certificate while applying for a government job.

The division bench today observed that while issuing OBC certificates after 2010, the state government had not followed right and established laws. The court has also ordered that the Backward Class Welfare Commission formulate the list of OBCs keeping in mind the 1993 law in this regard. After that, the list has to be sent to the state Assembly. After the Assembly recommends the list then the final names can be published.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly opposed the order of the High Court and said she will move to the Supreme Court if needed.
