Iran launched drones and missiles at Israel directly from its territory on Sunday, marking a major escalation in the shadow war between the two nations. Israel’s military said more than 100 drones were launched from Iran, with security sources in Iraq and Jordan reporting dozens seen flying overhead.
Iran’s state-run television is reported that Iranian missiles have been fired toward the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
IRNA has cited sources as saying that the sound of sirens was heard in the al-Jalil region in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Reports indicate that some Iranian drones or missiles have already reached the skies in the occupied territories. They say that the flight of luminous objects likely Iranian drones or missiles can be clearly seen entering and possibly hitting various targets.
This is believed to be in retaliation for the killing of a commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in an attack earlier this month on the Iranian embassy in Syria. That attack is believed to have been carried out by Israel.
Earlier, Iran’s state-run television also reported that the country’s Revolutionary Guards had sent multiple drones toward Israel.
They say the launch was in retaliation for the April 1 killing of a commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in that apparent Israeli attack on Iran’s embassy in Syria.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that Iran had sent multiple drones from its territory toward Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the Israeli war cabinet at military headquarters in Tel Aviv after the Iranian attack. In a statement, he assured Israelis that all defensive systems are “deployed” and that Israel is “ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively”. He also thanked the US, the UK and France, and other nations for their support.
Earlier on Saturday, Iran’s state-run news agency reported that the country’s Revolutionary Guard Corps had seized ships related to Israel near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has not issued an official statement on the seizure of the vessels.
