Das’s family members and a few people from Bhaini Mian Khan Village of Gurdaspur district of Punjab received him. Lamenting that he had lost the golden period of his youth behind the bars in Pakistan, Gopal Das asked the Indian government why it was silent for the last 27 years.

Gopal Dass, soon after entering his motherland India, thanked God. It was an emotional reunion of brothers and sisters when he embraced them at Attari border. His brother Anand Vir and sisters Krishna Devi and Asha Rani were in tears seeing him after more than two decades. Gopal Dass was also unable to hold back his tears.

A resident of Punjab’s Bhaini Mian Khan village in Guradaspur Distt., Gopal Dass was given a hero’s welcome by the villagers when he reached there. Das said that 32 Indian nationals, who have completed their jail term in Pakistan, are still languishing there.
