MUMBAI: French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Monday rounded off his visit to India with a call for an international cooperation to combat terrorism. Condemning the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, he asked Pakistani authorities to show that they are resolute in combating terrorism.

He said, Pakistan must take action against 26/11 perpetrators. Speaking at the Oberoi Hotel in South Mumbai, one of the sites of 26/11 attacks, the French President compared the Mumbai terror attacks with the 9/11 attacks. He said that France shall stand by India so that justice is delivered. Sarkozy said that terrorism should be outlawed universally. Sarkozy honoured Karambir Kang of Taj Hotel and Devendra Bharma of Trident-Oberoi for their efforts in saving lives during 26/11 attacks.

He bestowed `Insignia of Officer of Ordre National Du Merite’ for their distinguished service. The French President and his wife Carla Bruni also laid a wreath at the Police Memorial on Marine drive in memory of the personnel who lost their lives in the attacks. Addressing the India – France Economic Conference in Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace before flying to Paris, the French President called for opening up of the Indian markets to make them more accessible. President Sarkozy reiterated France’s constant support for India to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council and hoped for a reformed security council in 2011.
