MUMBAI: (AMN) Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel has said that air-fares that had risen astronomically in the last month will stabilise within a week. Talking to media persons here he expressed hope that airlines would take corrective action in week time.  ‘If it is not done, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation – DGCA – is empowered to take actions for the benefit of air travellers’ he said. Minister said that the regulator is not helpless and it should not be presumed that the regulator could not take action. He was sure that they can act when the situation warrants.

Meanwhile, DGCA has called top executives of all Indian carriers for a meeting on Monday, asking them to explain why they have proposed such high fares. While SpiceJet, GoAir and IndiGo officials are having discussions with the DGCA today, full-service carriers– Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines– will meet with the regulator on Monday.
