The largest private rail coach factory in the country has been inaugurated at Kondakal village in Rangareddy district near Hyderabad yesterday. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao formally inaugurated the facility built by Medha Servo Drives Pvt Ltd, a Telangana company that designs and manufactures complex electrical and electronic Railway products.

The Chief Minister said Telangana was proud that a home-grown company will be building rail coaches in the State. He expressed happiness over the company bagging Mono rail orders from Mumbai. The company’s Managing Director Kashyap Reddy informed that the first phase of the unit has been set up in about 100 acres area with an investment of over 805 crore rupees and with a production capacity of 500 coaches and 50 locomotives per year. Over 550 people have already been employed and about 1000 more will be employed soon.

In 2017, the company signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation to establish a private rail coach factory, and its foundation stone was laid in 2020.
