The ruling AAP and the opposition BJP are once again at loggerheads over Rs 45 crore shelled out by the Delhi government for “beautification” of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence.

BJP spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra today, April 26, criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for spending 45 crore rupees on renovating his official bungalow. Addressing media in New Delhi, Dr. Patra said that the renovation had taken place at a time when there was an outcry in Delhi due to a sudden spike in Corona cases. He said ironically, the people who came hanging in autos for taking oath, who used to deny taking care now the country can see Mr Kejriwal’s double-speak.

AAP hits back with ‘Shahenshah-e-Alam’ salvo

AAP MP Sanjay Singh pointed out that PM Modi had bought a plane for himself worth Rs 8,400 crores during the Covid pandemic. “Our Prime Minister… lives like Shahenshah-e-Alam,” he jibed.

The ruling AAP and the opposition BJP are once again at loggerheads, this time over a cool Rs 45 crore shelled out by the Delhi government for “beautification” of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence.

Kejriwal has been accused of spending Rs 45 crore of public funds on his luxurious bungalow, including extravagant items like Dior polish, Vietnam marble, expensive curtains, and high-end carpets.

In a searing attack, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Kejriwal had betrayed his promise of promoting honesty and simplicity when he entered politics. Referring to the AAP supremo as “Maharaj”, Patra said even kings will bow to Kejriwal for his choice of “superior” products in the residence and his “lust for luxury and comfort”.

“This is the story of a shameless king,” Patra said at a news conference on Tuesday.

Not one to take the BJP’s Kejriwal bashing lying down, the Aam Aadmi Party mounted a spirited defence of its party chief while also giving it back to the saffron outfit.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, AAP MP Sanjay Singh elaborated that the Delhi CM’s residence was constructed 80 years ago, and the renovation was recommended by the Public Works department (PWD) after an audit.

“Rs 15 crore rupees were spent in repairing the LG’s house. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who claims to be a ‘fakir’ (ascetic), is spending Rs 500 crore on the PM residence,” he pointed out.
