The Election Commission of Nepal has directed to register the nomination papers of candidates of different gender and community than that of the Nation’s President. The direction, according to the President and Vice-President Election Act- 2074 BS, comes in the wake of the upcoming Vice-President election on 17th March.

To go by the spirit of inclusiveness, the Vice-President candidate should be from a different gender and ethnic community. As Ram Chandra Paudel was elected to the post of President in the cluster of Khas Arya, the Vice-President in the present case should be a Dalit, indigenous, Madheshi, Tharu or Muslim. The nomination paper selection for the election of the Vice-President is to be registered on March 11.
