At least six people were killed and over 30 others were injured on Saturday when a fire broke out following an explosion at an oxygen plant in Kadam Rasul area of Chittagong’s Sitakunda in Bangladesh.

The explosion took place at Seema Oxygen Plant. Nine units from the fire service rushed to the spot and managed to control the fire.

The authorities have set up a seven-member probe body to investigate the explosion and it has been asked to submit its report within seven days. The additional District Magistrate has been made the head of the probe body.

According to local residents, the explosion shook the surrounding region of two square kilometres. The blast had engulfed the neighbouring areas in thick black smoke.
