Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh RK Mathur inaugurated a two Day National Meet on RTI Act in Leh today, September 15. Standing Conference of Public Enterprises, SCOPE, has organized the Meet to discuss the Right To Information Act implementation in the Public Sector Enterprises in the country.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mathur said that efficient management of the PSUs proportionately reduces the number of RTIs. He advised that effective reply of RTIs in the initial stage will reduce the numbers at appellate authorities in the process.
Chief Information Commissioner Y K Sinha said that PSUs are efficiently implementing the RTI Act. He said that best practices, field-level knowledge, and feedback from 17 years of the RTI Act era, has to be reported to the Parliament and the concerned Committees.
SCOPE Director General Atul Sobti said, against the general perception, over 70 percent of PSUs are profit-making and contribute to 12 percent of the country’s GDP.
SCOPE Consultant OP Khorwal said that Corporate Governance is being revolutionized over the period. He said, during the meeting, different technical sessions discuss issues concerned with RTI implementation.
On the occasion, LG RK Mathur has launched UT Ladakh’s webpage for Disclosure of information under the RTI Act and a video PSEs in the pursuit of Atma Nirbhar Bharat’, showcasing the combined achievements of PSUs.
