P.V Sindhu storms into round 16 in women’s singles category

Indian Eves continue to display their strength in the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games as star shuttler P.V Sindhu storms into round 16 in the women’s singles category. The Indian players will be seen in action on the sixth day in Archery, Badminton and Boxing. In Badminton, India’s medal hopeful and Rio silver medallist P.V. Sindhu has stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of Women’s Singles after defeating Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi 21-9, 21-16 in the final Group J match this morning. World No. 7 Sindhu will next meet Denmark’s world number 12 Mia Blichfeldt, who topped Group I.
In Men’s Singles, B. Sai Praneeth will clash with Mark Caljouw of Netherland in Group ‘D’ match in the afternoon at 2.30 p.m. In Archery, Tarundeep Rai lost to Itay Shanny of Israel, 5-6 in the closely fought pre-quarterfinal match of Men’s individual event. Earlier, Tarundeep had defeated Ukraine’s Oleksii Hunbin, 6-4 in the Round of 32. Next in action will be Pravin Jadhav who will meet Galsan Bazarzhapov of Russian Olympic Committee at 12.30 p.m. in the same event. In Women’s section, World Number 1 Archer Deepika Kumari will begin her individual campaign against Bhutan’s Karma at 2.14 p.m.
In Women’s Hockey, India lost to defending champions Great Britain, 1-4 in their third Pool ‘A’ clash. Sharmila Devi scored the lone goal for India. This was India’s second straight loss in Pool A following a 5-1 defeat by Netherlands. The loss leaves India at the bottom of Pool A. Indian team will next take on Ireland on Friday. In Men’s Hockey Indian team defeated Spain by 3-0 yesterday.
With the second win India climbed up to the 2nd spot in the Pool A table. The Indians will next play reigning Olympic champions Argentina tomorrow. In Boxing, Pooja Rani will play against Ichrak Chaib in Round of 16 of Women’s middleweight at 2.33 p.m. In Rowing, duo of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh failed to qualify for the Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls final after finishing sixth and last in the second semifinal.
