Police are haunting for the knife-man who killed one person and wounded seven other in a two-hour stabbing rampage across Birmingham city centre
The first stabbing was in Constitution Hill at 00:30 BST then the killer moved south, apparently attacking at random, officers said.
The stabbings did not appear terrorism related, gang related or connected to disorder, West Midlands Police said.
Murder inquiry detectives said they were hunting a single suspect.
Multiple people were injured in a series of stabbings in the central England city of Birmingham. The West Midlands Police said officers were called to reports of a stabbing shortly after midnight on Sunday. That was soon followed by reports of other stabbings in the area.
Emergency services were at the scene to ensure the injured received medical care. It was not immediately clear what the nature of the stabbings was or how seriously the victims were injured.
