Bangladesh reported 34 deaths and 1,973 fresh cases of Corona infections over the last 24 hours since Saturday afternoon. According to the latest figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), on Sunday the death toll due to Corona in the country has gone up to 3,941 and the total number of infections now stands at over 2.94 lakh.
However, the number of people recovering from Corona in the last 24 hours was much higher than the new infections reported. 3,524 people recovered as against 1,973 new cases during this period taking the total number of recoveries to 1.79 lakh since the first Corona positive case was reported in Bangladesh on March 8. The number of active cases in the country as on Sunday stands at 1,11,566 compared to 1,13,151 reported on Saturday.
In the meanwhile, a number of prominent citizens and public figures of Bangladesh came under the impact of Corona. A senior journalist of the private TV network NTV Abdus Shahid died of Coronavirus in Dhaka on Sunday. Member of Parliament from Rajshahi Dr. Mansur Rahman tested positive for Corona. Religious Affairs Secretary of the government of Bangladesh Md. Nurul Islam and his wife also tested positive for Corona.
