The total Covid-19 count has crossed three lakh 32 thousand with 5860 people confirmed positive yesterday in Tamil Nadu. It includes 1179 in Chennai.
The number of those who have recovered has surpassed two lakh 72 thousand. 5236 people were discharged after treatment yesterday while 127 others succumbed to the disease.
The everyday case count in Chennai came down to a three digit figure on the 7th of this month, while it has gone up to more than a thousand since last Friday. The city civic body has introduced the community intervention programme to create more awareness in the state capital about the pandemic.
Meanwhile, a Covid Care Centre has been established in the Chennai Central Prison located at Puzhal on the city outskirts. So far the Covid-19 infected inmates of the prison were taken to the Stanley Medical College Hospital in the city.
For security reasons, the new facility has been established within the prison itself with separate wards for men and women. The government has said doctors and paramedical staff will be deployed for duty there 24-by-7.
