Two days before first anniversary of Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka, country’s police today said that investigations have revealed about a second wave of terrorists that were readied, after bombings that killed over 270 people.
Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratne told a press conference in Colombo that six suspects were arrested last week over planning similar attack. He said that these arrested suspects worked with certain organizations in order to preach extremism, while misleading the youth.
He said in the initial investigations, they were made to believe that main mastermind Zahran Hasheem’s group was split into two due to conflicts among them and it was only one group which was involved in crimes. Mr. Senaratne said information reveals that it was a deliberate attempt by them to mislead the intelligence units with regard to the investigations about them.
Zahran was the leader of nine suicide bombers who blasted themselves at three churches and hotels on the 21st of April last year. Investigations had revealed involvement of a local Islamist group though ISIS had claimed the responsibility.
