A head constable of police allegedly shot dead his wife, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law in Moga district on Sunday morning.
He also fired shots at his 10-year-old daughter from his service rifle, an AK-47, injuring her. She is currently undergoing treatment in a government hospital.
The incident took place at Said Jalalpur village in Dharamkot sub-division of Moga.
The deceased had been identified as Rajwinder Kaur (wife), Jaskaran Singh (brother-in-law), Inderjit Kaur (sister-in-law) and Sukhwinder Kaur (mother-in-law), a police official said.
The constable, Kulwinder Singh, was posted in the police lines here. He was in the anti-riot squad and was heading the tear gas unit of the local police, reports Tribune.
After committing the crime, Singh surrendered before the police, who arrested him. Police have also recovered his service rifle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Singh had a dispute with his wife and her family.
This was his second marriage. His wife and daughter had gone to her parent’s house in Said Jalalpur village a few days back. Singh went there and fired shots at the family.
Police had taken the bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem examination at the district hospital here.
