Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant has resigned as Union Minister in the BJP-led NDA Government. Talking to media in New Delhi today, Mr Sawant said, he sent his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The move came amid tussle between BJP and Shivsena over government formation in Maharashtra.

MEANWHILE Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is meeting with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar at an undisclosed location in Mumbai to discuss getting together to form government in Maharashtra.

The meeting took place after the Sena’s only minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Arvind Sawant, resigned, signaling the party’s severing of ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Sena’s decision to pull out its only minister in the central government meets a key condition of the NCP to discuss an alliance in Maharashtra. After weeks of turmoil, the state appeared to tilt towards a Shiv Sena-led government with NCP and Congress leaders discussing their options.
