Deepawali, the festival of lights, is being celebrated across the country today. The festival marks the victory of good over evil. People also worship the Goddess of wealth Lakshmi on the occasion.
In West Bengal, Kali puja is being celebrated along with Deepabali today. In Kolkata, community Kali Pujas are being organized at different parts of the metropolis. Our Guwahati correspondent has filed this report on Diwali celebrations in Assam.
Tamil Nadu is celebrating Diwali with traditional fervour and religious gaiety. People woke up early in the morning, took sesame oil bath, clad themselves in the new dresses and greet each other besides sharing sweets and gifts. The festival of light is being celebrated with children and elders bursting crackers. A report from our correspondent:
In Delhi, people have decorated their houses with lights and are preparing to worship the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. They have also dotted the entrances of their houses with rangolis. Our correspondent reports that all arrangements have been made to make the festival incident-free in the city.
The last Delhi Metro train service will start at 10 PM today from terminal stations of all Metro Lines including Airport Express Line. Metro train services will run as usual for rest of the day on all lines including Airport Express Line.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended greetings to the citizens on Deepawali.
In his message, Mr Kovind said, the festival marks the triumph of hope over despair, good over evil and light over darkness. He appealed to the people to try to bring happiness in the lives of those who are less fortunate and needy by lighting the lamp of love, care and sharing.
In his message, the Vice President said, the ‘festival of lights’ is the celebration of perpetual power of the good and its capability to conquer all evil. He said, the festival tells us that truth and virtue alone triumph in the end.
In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, may this auspicious festival brighten life of people with prosperity and good health and may there be happiness all around.
