Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker, KR Ramesh Kumar has disqualified three MLAs for the rest of the tenure of current Assembly.

Speaker has disqualified Ranebennur MLA, R Shankar till May 2023. Speaking to the media persons in Bengaluru today, he said, R.Shankar had merged his party KPJP with Congress on June 14 but on July 8, he gave a letter that he is supporting BJP.

This the Speaker said comes under the 10th schedule of the constitution and the member stands disqualified.

The Speaker has also disqualified two Congress MLAs Ramesh Jarkiholi and Mahesh Kumatahalli for anti-party activities till 2023 when the 15th Assembly comes to an end.

The Speaker clarified that the disqualified MLAs cannot contest the election till then. He pointed out that the legislative Party leader Siddaramaiah had petitioned to him on February but the resignation was submitted by the two MLAs in July.

The Speaker has said the decision on the rest of 14 MLAs is under consideration. He further noted that their cases will be decided based on their conduct.

The Speaker pointed out that in their case the resignation was given to him and the petition to disqualify them was received later. He further added that he will examine whether these MLAs resignations were voluntary and genuine.
