AMN / BANGALORE

In a MAJOR blow to the HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition government in Karnataka, two Congress MLAs Ramesh Jarkiholi and Anand Singh have resigned from the state Assembly.

In his resignation letter to Assembly Speaker yesterday, Mr Jarkiholi said he has resigned as Gokak MLA for being ignored by the party and the coalition government.

His resignation came within hours of Anand Singh, who represents Vijayanagar in Ballari, quitting to protest the state government’s decision to sell over 3,667 acres in Ballari to JSW Steel Ltd.

After the Lok Sabha election, the state Cabinet decided to sell the mining land to Jindal steel plant at the cost of 1.20 lakh rupees per acre.

The twin resignations came at a time when Chief Minister Kumaraswamy is in the US since June 30 on a week-long private visit along with two JD-S ministers.
