Heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai and its neighbouring areas for the fourth consecutive day on Monday, leaving the financial capital struggling with waterlogging, choked drains, traffic jams and cancellations and delays in trains.
According to Western Railway, the city witnessed heavy, incessant rains with 361 mm during Sunday night, 100 mm between 4am and 5am in the Palghar area of Mumbai Division. Some trains, including Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express, have been regulated in view of the passengers’ safety.
Heavy rain has disrupted train services connecting Mumbai and Pune due to the derailment of a goods train and trains have been cancelled entering Mumbai from Palghar District due to waterlogging.
A goods train was derailed between Jambrung and Thakurwadi in Ghat section near Lonavala in Pune and many trains from Mumbai to Pune have been cancelled, although trains from Pune to Mumbai are running with some delay.
The long distance trains from Mumbai via Pune will be diverted from Igatpuri. Meanwhile, heavy rain is lashing many parts of Mumbai, but the local train service is not affected and the trains on all the lines are running with some delay
