A suicide attack in south-eastern Iran has killed at least 27 members of the Revolutionary Guards. 13 others were also wounded in the attack.

The bomber targeted a bus transporting personnel in Sistan-Baluchistan province near the border with Pakistan. The Guards, in a statement, said the assault came as the troops were returning from a border patrol mission.

Sunni Muslim militant group ‘Jaish al-Adl’ has reportedly claimed the responsibility for the bombing.

Iran’s state media report that a vehicle loaded with explosives hit a bus transporting members of the Guard Corps in Sistan-Baluchistan province near the border with Pakistan on Wednesday.

The bus was carrying about 40 members of the Guard Corps who had finished border security duties.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bahram Qassemi vowed retaliation “for the blood of the martyrs of this incident.”

Security in the region has been threatened by the ongoing activities of the Sunni extremist group. The militants kidnapped 10 members of the Guard Corps last October. They have also carried out attacks targeting police.

Iran vows reprisal against terrorist attack

Tehran – Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi expressed regret over Wednesday’s terrorist attack in Sistan-Baluchestan which killed and wounded dozens of countrymen, saying that devoted children of the country will take revenge of the bloods of the martyrs.

Expressing solidarity with the families of the victims and condemning the inhumane act, he said that the terrorist group’s resorting to such inhuman acts will strengthen the Iranian government and people to continue fighting terrorism.

Public Relations Department of IRGC’s Ground Force’s Quds Headquarters in a statement late on Wednesday announced a suicide attack on a bus carrying forces Khash-Zahedan Road, killing and wounding a number of them.

Unofficial resources put death toll at 41 during the terrorist act which was claimed by the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group. IRNA
