CBI officer A.K. Bassi, who was investigating an alleged bribery case against the investigating agency’s Special Director Rakesh Asthana, today approached the Supreme Court challenging his transfer to Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice K.M. Joseph said “we will see” as the counsel for Bassi sought an early hearing on the plea.
Seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the allegation of bribery against Asthana, Bassi told the court that he was an investigating officer in the case and had gathered incriminating material when he was sent on leave by the government following an internecine war in the CBI.

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on Tuesday examined some CBI officials probing crucial cases which figured in Special Director Rakesh Asthana’s complaint of corruption against the probe agency’s chief Alok Verma, officials said.
Officials from the rank of inspector up to the superintendent of police of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were called and their versions were recorded before a senior official of the CVC.
The officials who recorded their statements include those who handled the Moin Qureshi bribery case, the IRCTC scam, involving former railway minister Lalu Yadav, the cattle smuggling case in which a senior BSF officer was caught with wands of cash in Kerala.
Official sources said these officials were called from the CBI headquarters in the capital and some from zonal offices, including Kochi.
The officials were asked to give details of the cases in whose probe, the charges of alleged interference by Verma have come up.
