khargeCongress today charged the Government of running away from discussion on the no confidence motion (NCM) in Parliament. It said that a ‘Government sponsored agitation’ was being encouraged to prevent the House from running.

Talking to media persons here, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, “there is a match fixing going on wherein on the one hand the government is making a pretence that it wants to run the House while on the other hand, it is inciting members who want to agitate.”

They are saying that the House is not in order and hence the counting of the number of members supporting the no confidence motion is not possible which is why the no confidence motion cannot be taken up. Today we moved a no confidence motion under Rule 198. To make it easier for the Speaker to count the number of members supporting the Motion, the 80 to 90 members stood up on their seats sStill, the Speaker refused to take up the motion saying that the House was not in order.’’

He said that the Congress was ready for a discussion but that it is the government that was running away from a discussion.

‘’We are ready for a discussion. It is the government which is running away from a discussion. They know that once a no confidence motion is moved, a discussion on the motion will expose the scams and the misgovernance of this government which will dent their image and effect them in the coming elections,’’ Mr Kharge said.

The Lok Sabha was on Tuesday adjourned for the day after uproar by members of the AIADMK on the Cauvery issue. The House could not take up the no confidence motion against the Narendra Modi Government due to continuous uproarious scenes.

As the repeated plea from the Chair urging the slogan shouting AIADMK members and rebel AAP member Dharam Vira Gandhi to return to their seats from the Well did not yield expected results, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.
